DUBAI: Studio Ghibli recently released the official teaser trailer for Hayao Miyazaki’s alleged final film, The Boy and the Heron.

The movie is set to premiere later this year in North America.

The film is described as “a semi-autobiographical fantasy about life, death, and creation, in tribute to friendship” and follows the story of Mahito, a young boy attempting to come to terms with the death of his mother during World War II.

Mahito then lives with his father and discovers a world “shared by the living and the dead,” where “death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning.”

The movie is Miyazaki’s first film in a decade and is meant to mark his last ever film.

However, news reports are suggesting that the famous director has failed to retire for the fourth time as Studio Ghibli executive Junichi Nishioka told CBC News that not only does he not feel like retiring anymore, but he is actively coming into work to create yet another film.

According to Gizmodo, Nishioka said: “Other people say that [The Boy and the Heron] might be his last film, but he doesn’t feel that way at all.”

The Boy and the Heron previously premiered in Japan and made its premiere in the West at the Toronto International Film Festival. Its worldwide premiere is set for Dec. 8.
