Bundaberg man feeds baby a beer in online video, prompting mum’s defence

A Queensland mother has hit out online after a video surfaced of her partner feeding their baby sips from a bottle of beer.

The video shows an infant being fed beer by a man who appears to be the child’s father.

The video was posted to a local Bundaberg Facebook community page by an anonymous user.

The user posted the video with the comment, “Absolutely disgusting. (That’s) Bundaberg for ya”, which received angry and shocked reactions from the community.

The post prompted a response from the child’s mother, who said the beer-drinking act, which was initially only posted to her private account, was done lightheartedly.

“Are you actually serious right now?” she said.

“How about you all look at yourself, no one is a straight Mumma, you have a laugh and giggle and some fun.

“Back in the day, we all have photos of our Dads giving us a sip of beer.”

Queensland Minister for Child Safety, Craig Crawford, was asked about the incident during a press briefing in Brisbane on another matter.

Crawford said while he did not have memories of his father giving him a sip of beer, he “knows many people who do”.

He advised that “if people have concerns” to report those concerns to the police or to child safety departments.

The Bundaberg mother defended her and her partner’s actions, saying that “in the moment” it was “funny in my eyes” and that “it was Father’s Day”.

The mum, who also revealed in the post that she is expecting their second child, asked people to not “judge mothers” and to not be “cruel”.

“I’m the best mother to my little boy and so is his father,” she said.

The video appeared to have been taken off the community page by the time of reporting.
