Apple reports security warning for iPhone and iPad users over ‘malicious’ hack

Tech giant Apple has reported an important security issue impacting customers after confirmed reports of users being hacked.

The release was posted by the company’s security page on Thursday and advises that Apple users have found “maliciously crafted images or attachments” that may have led to them downloading an “arbitrary code execution” without knowing.

This is believed to be an attempt by hackers to gain access to users’ iPhones and other devices by use of an image with hidden malware embedded within it and has been confirmed by Apple as affecting both ImageIO and Apple Wallet.

Apple stated that they are “aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited”.

The issue has affected Apple iPhone iOS and iPadOS devices, according to the tech company.

The security breach was first recognised by The Citizen Lab at The University of Torontoʼs Munk School, which Apple acknowledged for their assistance.
