“Apparently this outfit was ‘inappropriate’ for a barbecue,” she said a TikTok video.
Responding to critics, Lilly said: “Where I’m from, we dress our best to get together, no matter how small they are.
“We like to party and we like to look good. This is part of our culture if you don’t like it, don’t invite us.”
Her video has been viewed more than 550,000 times – with many defending her outfit.
“It’s not inappropriate. They are just jealous they don’t look half as stunning as you do so they wanna tear you down,” one said.
Another suggested: “Yes girl! I’m ‘overdressed’ just to go to the grocery store. It’s how I was raised… you look your best! Cute outfit by the way, you look beautiful!”
One wrote: “My mum and I are always so overdressed to gatherings and parties, but we don’t care, it’s our culture and we’re happy with it.”
Another added: “As someone who is always underdressed, I admire people who dress up all the time.”
While one said: “I’d rather be over dressed than underdressed.”
Her outfit comes just a month after an office employee claimed she was sent home from work for wearing a “distracting” dress.
Marie Dee, from the US, wore a black figure-hugging dress with a high neckline – but a human resources employee allegedly deemed her outfit inappropriate.
The mum-of-two quietly filmed herself being confronted by the “HR girl” who declared her dress “way too revealing and distracting” for the office.
“Guys it happened again, I’m getting sent home for my outfit,” Marie said in the viral TikTok video.
“This is getting ridiculous.”
The footage shows Marie walking over to the HR employee’s office to ask what was wrong with her dress.
“I’m sorry you still can’t wear that. It’s way too revealing and distracting,” the HR woman can be heard saying.
Confused, Marie responded: “It’s distracting?” to which the HR staff member replied: “Very.”
