The Voice judges Jason Derulo, Guy Sebastian, Rita Ora and Jess Mauboy were left speechless over a shock twist on Sunday night’s episode.
Team Jason singers Callum Warrender, Andrew Taylor Knight and Alex Jeans performed You Raise Me Up as a trio during the Battles, blowing away the judges and crowd with their unbelievable performance.
When it came time for the American coach to choose who to send through to the semi finals – and which two singers would be going home – he struggled to make a choice and asked for more time.

At the end of the episode, he still hadn’t made a decision – and that’s when he came up with a jaw-dropping idea, the first of its kind on The Voice.
“Genuinely, I’ve been racking my brain all night about this decision,” he told the trio.
“I want the decision to be yours, not mine.”

The other judges were frustrated by Jason’s words, with Rita challenging Jason.
“So, Jason, welcome to The Voice,” she said, “Where we basically have to make decisions.”
When Jason promised he would make up his mind, she asked: “So when exactly are you gonna be making these decisions?”
That’s when the US star revealed his bold plan.
“Separately, you’re really unbelievable,” he said. “Together as a group? You guys are unstoppable.
“So my question to you: Will the three of you, as a unit, join me for the semi finals?
“It is totally and utterly your decision. Two of you go home tonight or the three of you continue on to the semi final.”
The crowd and other judges were stunned by the turn of events, with Jess covering her mouth and saying “Oh my God”, while Rita said: “I can’t breathe.”
Callum, Alex and Andrew then asked for time to discuss the proposal on stage – leaving host Sonia Kruger, Guy, Rita and Jess to discuss Jason’s shock move.
Overwhelmingly, the judges all agreed it was a great idea.
“I mean they are incredible together, it does make sense,” Rita said. “I mean, it really does.”
Guy added: “I’m all up for a man band.”
“Me too,” agreed Jess.
Although their approval earned a wild response from audience, it seems the performers themselves weren’t as fussed with the concept.
While the cameras were busy capturing the judges’ reaction to Jason’s wild plan, there was no recording of the discussion between Callum, Andrew and Alex.
It meant the audience, Jason and the judges were blindsided when the trio revealed their very unexpected decision.
“We have discussed (it) and the offer is so incredible, and I think it just warms our hearts that you think that’s even a possibility for us as a unit to grow even bigger together,” Callum said.
“But together, we have decided that we are singular artists and we believe in ourselves.”
Jason immediately stood up and turned to the side, a shocked look over his face.
“Nooooooo,” he said.
“We believe in our artistry enough, separately, that I think one of us still deserves a spot in that semi final next to Ethan by ourselves,” Callum continued.
The crowd, Jason and the other judges were stunned by the men’s decision, clearly shocked that they didn’t take Jason up on his offer.
“I did not think you were gonna say that,” Jason said. “I’m just gonna be honest, I didn’t think.”
“But at the end of the day, it is your decision. You do realise that two of you will be going home?”
When the trio agreed that they were happy for only one of them to go through, Jason made his choice – selecting Callum to move through to the semi finals.
“This is a lot,“ Callum said afterwards.
When the performer moved off the stage, Jason appeared to be unimpressed with the turn of events – but didn’t elaborate more on camera.
“What an epic first night of Battles,” Sonia said.
