Rebel Wilson has spoken candidly of the “very bizarre” day she was “rebirthed” in a new interview.
In a segment curated for Apple Fitness +, the Pitch Perfect actress said she attended an Austrian health retreat in the lead up to her “Year of Health” in 2020 in a bid to give her system a “restart”.

Rebel has been candid about suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) – with condition one of the reasons she began a health kick that saw her lose 23kg.
“It’s genetic, and it kind of messes with your hormones and in my instance kind of made it harder than an average person would have in the battle to lose weight,” Rebel told the Time to Walk audio experience available on Apple Watch.
After deciding to take action about her health in 2020, Rebel visited a health retreat in the town of Altaussee.
“The craziest treatment was probably… I think it’s called water shiatsu massage,” Rebel said.
“And basically you’re in a pool just by yourself but with one Austrian lady. And you kind of have to just close your eyes and lean back and float in the water. And she kind of drags you around the pool while singing Austrian folk songs, but you can half-hear because your head’s mainly under water.”
Rebel said the treatment was supposed to symbolise “a rebirthing of sorts”.
‘It was a very bizarre feeling’ – Rebel Wilson
“After 90 minutes of it, you have no idea where you are,” she said.
“You know logically you’re in the same pool that you were in, but because you’ve been swirled around for 90 minutes in the water, you don’t quite know.
“It’s supposed to kind of, symbolise some kind of rebirthing. And it was, it was a very bizarre feeling, but it did feel like you’re in the womb, and then at the end, you come out,” she added.
Rebel went on to say it was a “pretty cool experience”.
“It’s not something I would’ve signed up for by myself. But I thought, you know, ‘I’m going to be healthy now. I’m going to try everything’. It was fun, though. I liked it. I actually found it very relaxing,” she said.
Rebel went on to explain that during a body analysis session at the retreat, an Austrian doctor gave her some sage advice: “Rebel, the best way for you to lose unwanted body fat is just simply walking,” he said.
“Doesn’t have to be high-intensity, doesn’t have to be uphill, just moderate walking an hour a day. And if you can do that, for you, for your body type, it’s, like, the best way to lose unwanted body fat.”
“And what was so interesting is that, like, you come to this amazing place that has all the best high-tech stuff in the world for health, and then the thing that they recommend is something that you could do anywhere in the world, and you don’t have to have anything to be able to do it apart from the ability just to go for a walk,” Rebel said.
The actor has widely credited walking for her body transformation.
During an Instagram Live in December, she sat down with fans to discuss how it helped her.
“I’m in a lucky position … I do have access to really amazing personal trainers but I want you guys to know that the majority of the exercise that I’ve done this year has just been me going out for a walk,” she said.
“That is free, you can do it, it’s safe.”
Rebel said she had been surprised by how much she had enjoyed the activity.
“Weirdly, I never thought I would like hiking, walking uphill,” she laughed.
“Like, who would have thought that’d be a fun activity? But frick it’s good. To be out in nature, get that air into your lungs. I really really love it and so I do that now all the time.”
