Overwatch 2 fans are counting down to the release of the mid-season update. After suffering a short delay, the mid-season update has been given a September 7 release date on PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch. Based on previous Overwatch 2 updates, the patch should be available to download from around 6pm BST UK time. The headline feature is the release of the new Hero Mastery Mode, which should complement the traditional training mode.
The news was announced on an Overwatch 2 blog post, alongside a preview about what to expect from the new update.
“Hello heroes! We’re getting ready for our next game update, which will include hero balance changes along with the new Hero Mastery mode,” reads a Blizzard post.
“Things are taking a bit longer than expected as we make sure the new update is ready to go, so we will be releasing the midseason update on Thursday, September 7.
“We look forward to seeing all of you try out the new Hero Mastery mode then.”
As you can see from the early patch notes, the new update also makes a variety of hero balance changes.
Hero Mastery Mode, on the other hand, is a new game feature to help players get to grips with each character.
Hero Mastery is said to contain “engaging training courses” that are designed for each individual character.
There’s even global leaderboard support for players to show off their skills against each other. Unfortunately, however, not all heroes will have their own courses at launch.
Blizzard explains more: “Finally, we’re introducing a new way to play and practice with your favorite heroes with Hero Mastery mode.
“These engaging training courses are specifically designed for each select hero, testing your skills with their abilities.
“Hero Mastery will also feature global leaderboards to showcase the top-performing hero masters across the world.
“Overwatch 2: Invasion will be launching the first courses for a selection of heroes, with more to come in future seasons.”
