Miley Cyrus has revealed she knew the exact moment her marriage to Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth was over.
The pair, who had been in a relationship for a decade and married for only one year of that, went their separate ways in 2019.
In a new TikTok video, the Wrecking Ball singer said she was onstage at Glastonbury Festival in the UK earlier that year when she had a lightning bolt moment.

“Glastonbury was in June, which was when the decision had been made that … Me and Liam’s commitment to being married, really came from, of course, a place of love first — because we’d been together for 10 years — but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could,” she said.
“The day of the show was the day I had decided that it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship.”
In talking about “trying to rebuild”, Cyrus was referring to the fact that, before they married, she and Hemsworth lost their Malibu home in the California wildfires on November 2018.
They decided, after that trauma, to marry, and tied the knot one month later.
But by August 2019, their long union was officially over.
In the TikTok video, Cyrus said she had a habit of burying her emotions.
“Every bit of trauma in my life, when my grandfather died while I was on-set, I finished the scene and dealt with that later,” she said.
“During (filming of the TV show) Black Mirror, the house was burning down, I finished my work and dealt with it later.
“On Glastonbury, when that happened, I finished and dealt with it later.
“The work, the performance, the character, came first.
“Now, it’s so important for me for that to not be the case.
“The human comes first.”
When Cyrus released her hit song Flowers early in 2023, many fans read the lyrics as a statement on her former relationship with Hemsworth.
“I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand/Talk to myself for hours, say things you don’t understand/I can take myself dancing, and I can hold my own hand/Yeah, I can love me better than you can.”
Some conspiracy theorists even thought the gold outfit the pop star wore in the accompanying video was a veiled reference to a gold Hunger Games ensemble worn by Jennifer Lawrence, with whom co-star Hemsworth had been romantically linked during the making of the film.
Flowers was released on Hemsworth’s birthday, a detail that didn’t go unnoticed by fans.
“The goddess era after healing the trauma. Hell yes,” one person wrote when a snippet of the tune was dropped on Instagram.
“Slay that you release that song on his birthday,” said another.
The couple met in 2009 on the set of the movie The Last Song and had a reportedly tumultuous relationship.
Speaking to Howard Stern in 2020, Cyrus said there had been a lot of “conflict” in her relationship with Hemsworth but she would “always” love him.
“I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will,” she said.
