Dehradun Murder: Lt Col Ramendu Upadhyay, who is married and has a two-year-old child, got into an illicit relationship with a 25-year-old Nepali woman whom in met in 2020 at a dance bar in Siliguri
A 42-year-old lieutenant colonel’s extra-marital affair turned ugly and horrific when his wife came to know about it. The sequence of events were such that the man ended up smashing his lover’s head with a hammer and dumping her body next to a road in Dehradun.
According to a report in Times of India, Lt Col Ramendu Upadhyay, who is married and has a two-year-old child, got into an illicit relationship with a 25-year-old Nepali woman whom in met in 2020 when she “worked at a dance bar” in West Bengal’s Siliguri.
Upadhyay allegedly met the woman during his posting in Bengal. He later got posted in Dehradun but continued his relationship, and also called the 25-year-old woman to the Uttarakhand capital.
“After meeting the woman at a dance bar in 2020, Lt Col Upadhyay was involved in an illicit relation with her and lived together with the woman as a ‘couple’ in Siliguri. He got posted in Dehradun in July, but continued the relationship. He then called her to Dehradun where his wife came to know about it,” TOI quoted SSP (Dehradun) Daleep Singh Kunwar as saying.
The lieutenant colonel later arranged a rented place for the woman in the city’s Clement Town area and continued to meet her there. The woman then started putting pressure on him to marry her, the report stated.
Kunwar was further quoted as saying that Lt Col’s wife also met her husband’s lover, and they had a heated argument. The report stated that after the “quarrel”, Upadhyay decided to get rid of the woman.
“As per the plan, he took her for a night out to a city bar on Saturday. They later went for a long drive around Dehradun and passed by Thano forest where he smashed her head with a hammer. He then dumped her body next to the road,” the SSP was quoted.
The accused parked the vehicle after the ‘murder’ and went home. Some local residents found the woman’s body the next day and police initiated an investigation, the report stated.
The police tracked down Upadhyay car after scanning the CCTV footage of the area. He reportedly “confessed to the crime” on Monday after police officers took him away from his house for questioning. “A case of murder has been registered against him and he has been arrested,” Kunwar was quoted as saying.A 42-year-old lieutenant colonel’s extra-marital affair turned ugly and horrific when his wife came to know about it.
