Family shattered as two young lives lost, one critical in wet-weather BMW crash at Sydney’s Wiley Park

The two young men killed in a wet weather crash in Sydney’s southwest have been identified as Joey Tofan and Khalil Hamoud.

Tofan, 23, and his friend Hamoud, 22, were passengers in a BMW sedan being driven by Hamoud’s younger brother, 20-year-old Yousef Hamoud, when it collided with a truck on King Georges Rd at Wiley Park about 8.45pm on Monday.

The force of the crash was so extreme it appeared to meld the two vehicles together.

Nearby residents said they were shocked by the impact.

“Unbelievable. It’s very scary, very sad,” local resident Bimala Uyawali told 7NEWS.

Tofan and Hamoud died at the scene.

Yousef was rushed to hospital with critical injuries.

He was placed in an induced coma and received a blood transfusion at the scene.

The driver of the five-tonne truck, a 24-year-old man, was uninjured but taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Family and friends of the trio posted an emotional tribute online.

“Yesterday, our hearts were shattered by a tragedy we can barely find the words for,” the post read.

“Three beautiful boys, full of dreams and laughter, were caught in a moment that changed everything forever.

“Today, their families wake up to a reality no parent, no sibling, no friend should ever face.

“Please, keep them in your prayers. Pray for the souls of Khalil and Joey that they are embraced with mercy, love, and light. Pray for Yousef, that he finds the strength to heal and return to the arms of those who love him.

King Georges Road is one of southwest Sydney’s busiest routes.

Police are investigating whether speed and the wet road conditions contributed to the crash.
