Courtesy KQEDA new season of the Bay Area’s most famous food show is set to return on Sept. 7.
“Check, Please! Bay Area,” the Emmy Award-winning show on KQED, highlights different restaurants — hidden gems and legendary classics — from around the Bay Area in each episode. Every week, the show’s host, Leslie Sbrocco, brings on three local foodies to share their favorite restaurants with the group. After visiting everyone’s spots, they join Sbrocco in the studio to discuss their experiences. Going into season 18, the show has a profound impact on smaller businesses — hence the term “the ‘Check, Please!’ effect.”
This new season will air episodes each Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. for the next five weeks and will feature an array of well-known and under-the-radar eateries. The kick-off episode features Mamahuhu, a fast-casual joint co-owned by Mister Jiu’s Brandon Jew, as well as Zuni Cafe, one of San Francisco’s most famous restaurants. Upcoming episodes will highlight places like Gao Viet Kitchen & Bar of San Mateo, which is known for a $95 bowl of pho, as well as Marin French Cheese Co., one of the oldest cheese manufacturers in the U.S.

Sept. 14: Baia Restaurant in San Francisco, Mare Island Brewing Co. Ferry Taproom in Vallejo, A Cote in Oakland and Marin French Cheese Co. in Petaluma.

Sept. 21: Mazra in San Bruno, Benchmark Pizza in Kensington, Flacos in Berkeley and Hella Plants Market in San Francisco.
Sept. 28: Dia de Pesca in San Jose, Gao Viet Kitchen & Bar in San Mateo and Fiore Caffe in San Francisco.
Oct. 5: Cafe La Taza in San Francisco, Kensington Circus Pub in Kensington, Beit Rima in San Francisco and Mexico Tortilla Factory in Newark.
