A global approach for legal education: Bennett University signs MoU with University of Birmingham

NEW DELHI: To broaden the horizon of legal education and to further Bennett University’s commitment towards internationalisation of higher education in India, the University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Birmingham on November 24 at a special signing ceremony held at Taj Man Singh, New Delhi.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Prabhu Kumar Aggarwal, vice-chancellor of BU, and professor Adam Tickell, vice-chancellor and principal of the University of Birmingham, to foster and promote international cooperation in the domain of education and research between the two institutions.
The MoU will provide students and faculty at the School of Law, a unique and unrivalled scholastic opportunity by fostering advancement in teaching pedagogy through admission assistance to UG students to the LLM/Master of Law program at the University of Birmingham, development of academic programs, conducting joint workshops, research activities and publications.
Dr. Aggarwal, elaborated on the university’s larger vision to create world-class legal education in India, “Today marks another milestone, as we sign up to a range of collaborations providing an international academic experience to our students. The global collaboration fosters an inclusive learning environment and global research opportunities that is crucial for holistic and professional growth, for both students and faculty alike. Such diverse and global viewpoints are an essential component for students, resulting in intellectual breakthroughs and free flow of ideas.”
On signing the prestigious collaboration, professor Tickell, commented: “The University of Birmingham is a global ‘civic’ university and is committed to forging meaningful education and research partnerships in India. We have been named the most targeted university by the UK’s top 100 graduate employers, according to a report in 2021. This partnership is a testament to our strong partnerships in India which will support our education, research, and employability agenda.”
This MoU has further strengthened BU’s commitment towards elevating the legal education landscape in India. It will create a truly global learning experience for students to excel in the field of legal education, added, Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Kulshreshtha, dean, School of Law, BU.
Recently, faculty from the University of Birmingham conducted certified workshops on labour and environmental law, imparting knowledge from diverse domains to law students of BU.
These collaborations are a vital part of BU’s international endeavours and will become key to success, offering students a range of diverse options for international exposure. To continue to provide students with innovative, challenging and research-driven education, BU is further exploring the collaborative synergies in the field of computer science and technology with the University of Birmingham, said, Dr. Deepak Garg, dean of International Relations and Corporate Outreach and dean, School of Computer Science Engineering and Technology.
A global approach to education has become imperative in today’s world. Pushing forward the boundaries of knowledge, this collaboration will help leverage a world class research oriented, outstanding global education, develop ‘life and career ready’ professionals with a global perspective, who are ready to challenge and be challenged.
