In fact, it is reported that the California-headquartered tech giant had hired a host of ex-Tesla employees to work on its ‘Project Titan’. However, over the course of the last seven-eight years, the plan was said to be scrapped off multiple times before the reports of revival emerged again.

What is ‘Project Titan’?
The Apple electric car, or should we say the iCar, is a rumoured electric car in its development phases. However, the manufacturer has reportedly shifted its focus to developing a car that can be driven both autonomously and manually.
The tech titan is reportedly working on a number of technologies for its electric car, including self-driving software, battery technology, and in-car entertainment systems. The company has a strong track record of innovation, and its products are known for their performance and user-friendly design, hence, it could also leverage its existing ecosystem of products to equip its car with.
CEO Tim Cook on autonomous tech
The company has kept everything regarding the project a secret so far. Although, the major hint from Apple came in 2017, when CEO Tim Cook, admitted in an interview with Bloomberg the company’s work on autonomous driving software as he said “We’re focusing on autonomous systems. It’s a core technology that we view as very important. We sort of see it as the mother of all AI projects. It’s probably one of the most difficult AI projects to actually work on.”
Project Titan – Present and Future
While the details about the project are very scarce and the rumour mills keep switching sides, it is still unclear when the car will debut. However, as per a Reuters report, the company can unveil its first passenger vehicle by 2024.
The iPhone maker’s entry into the automotive market, if at all it happens, would be a major disruption, and it would likely shake up the industry just like Tesla did some years back. That said, only the future will tell how and when, the Apple EV will come to life. Meanwhile, this a project that demands for a close watch, with its potential to change the face of autonomous technology.
