Bengaluru to Chennai in 2 hours, connectivity to Delhi via Surat, know expressway details, max speed, route

Chennai will soon be connected to national capital Delhi via the access-controlled highway project.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari last Thursday gave a big update on the highly-anticipated Bengaluru-Chennai expressway. Gadkari said that the express highway that will cut time between the two southern metros to just two hours will be completed around the turn of the year. Gadkari also added that Chennai will soon be connected to national capital Delhi via the access-controlled highway project.

“I reviewed the progress of National Highways projects in Chennai today. The Bengaluru-Chennai express highway will start by this year-end or January 2024. So, you can launch luxury buses and sleeper coaches in this sector,” Gadkari was quoted as saying by PTI.

Speaking at 75th anniversary celebrations of automaker Ashok Leyland,  Gadkari said, “We are making good roads. We are connecting Delhi to Chennai via Surat, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Kurnool, Chennai (and beyond to), Kanyakumari, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi (and also to) Bengaluru and Hyderabad, through the access-controlled highways project.” The Transport Ministry is in the process of creating an electric cable highway between Delhi and Jaipur.

About Bengaluru-Chennai Express highway

The Bengaluru-Chennai Express highway will be 258 kms in length. The 4-lane highway will begin from Hoskote in Bengaluru metropolis region to Sriperumbudur near suburban Chennai. The expressway will run through three states – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It will reportedly have a maximum speed of 120 kmph for cars.

It will connect 5 districts – Bengaluru Rural and Kolar in Karnataka, Chittoor in AP, Ranipettai and Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu. It will connect several towns between Bengaluru and Chennai – Hoskote, Malur, Bangarapet, Bethamangala, Vennkatagirikota, Palamaner, Bangarupalem, Chittoor, Ranipet, Walajapet, Arakkonam, Sriperumbudur.

Gadkari also added that Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Elevated Expressway project work will start soon.
