S Club 7 team up with British Heart Foundation in memory of bandmate | Music | Entertainment

The band are supporting the British Heart Foundation’s “Spotlight On” campaign in honour of Paul Cattermole who died in April this year of an underlying heart condition.

Paul, who was 46 when he died, had been preparing to join the band again for a reunion tour before his death.

S Club 7 member Jon Lee said: “As a band, we all personally know the devastating effect heart and circulatory diseases can have on people’s lives.

“It’s heartbreaking to know that this isn’t uncommon and far too many people die too soon from heart conditions they didn’t know they had.”

The partnership comes amid new research commissioned by the BHF that revealed people were naive to the scale of heart and circulatory diseases.

While the evidence showed around 50 percent of people in the UK will develop a heart condition in their lifetime, almost 25 percent of people thought the chance was one in 10.

Nearly a fifth of people thought the chance of developing heart disease was one in 50 and only three percent of respondents actually guessed the correct answer- one in two.

Chief Executive at the BHF Dr Charmaine Griffiths said: “It’s particularly worrying to see so many people are unaware of the scale of heart and circulatory diseases in the UK.

“That’s why together, with S Club, we want to raise awareness and bring heart and circulatory conditions into focus this September.”

The band has encouraged their fans to post a picture on social media with the hand heart gesture to show their support and tagged their posts #showyourhearts.

The first night of the band’s 25-year anniversary reunion tour the “Good Times Tour” will be dedicated to the BHF in honour of Paul in Manchester on October 12.
